Prabhuji, Jose Luis Montecinos, is a professional writer, a philosopher and a mystic who lives as a hermit. Author of several books about philosophy, religion, and spirituality, he is a respected member of the NWU (National Writers Union), IWA (International Writers Association), NAIWE (National Association of Independent Writers and Editors), and National Writers Association. His books have been published in Spanish, Hebrew, and English. Prabhuji is a member of The American Philosophical Association.
He was born in Santiago, the capital of the Republic of Chile, on March 21, 1958. When he was eight years old, he had a mystic experience that sparked his search for the Truth. For more than 30 years, he has dedicated himself to the deep exploration and practice of various religions and spiritual paths. His studies with masters from different traditions led him to spend many years in places far from home such as Israel and India.
He has devoted his life to deepening the early transformative experience that marked the beginning of his process of involution. Since his youth, he has felt deeply attracted to Hinduism.
For Prabhuji, all religious traditions share the same essence that can be acknowledged in practice. According to Prabhuji’s message, the awakening at the level of consciousness, or the transcendence of the ego-phenomenon, is the next step in humanity’s evolutionary process.
He is not limited to a sacred scripture in particular, but accepts and respects all the holy books and often quotes them to demonstrate that the essence of all religions is to know yourself. His message aims at the essence of all religions, which consists in the recognition of consciousness.
Prabhuji resides in the Prabhuji Ashram, a magnificent ashram that covers 47 acres in the forests of Round Top, New York. The lavish vegetation of the ashram resembles the forests where the sages of the classical India used to seclude themselves.
Several spiritual and religious authorities from India have honored Prabhuji with various titles and diplomas. The Bhaktivedānta title was conferred to him by H.H. B.A. Paramadvaiti Mahārāja, disciple of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedānta Swami Prabhupāda and founder of “Vrinda.” The Yogācārya title was given to him by H.H. Swami Viṣṇu Devānanda, disciple of H.H. Swami Śivānanda Sarasvatī and founder of the “Sivananda Organization”; and also by the Paramanand Institute of Yoga Sciences and Research of Indore, India, the International Yoga Federation, the Indian Association of Yoga and the Shri Shankarananda Yogashram of Mysore, India. The sannyāsa order was conferred to him by H.H. Swami Jyotirmayānanda Sarasvatī, disciple of H.H. Swami Śivānanda Sarasvatī, and founder of the “Yoga Research Foundation”; by H.H. B.A. Paramadvaiti Mahārāja, and by H.H. Bhaktivedānta Atulananda Ācārya Mahārāja, both disciples of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedānta Swami Prabhupāda. Finally in 2011, his spiritual master, Param Pujya Avadhūta Śrī Brahmānanda Bābājī Mahārāja, disciple of Param Pujya Avadhūta Śrī Mastarāma Bābājī Mahārāja, ordered him to renounce the sannyāsa order and to accept initiation in the very elevated avadhūta bābājī order.
In recent years, Prabhuji lives as a hermit in his home, the Prabhuji Ashram. He spends his days writing, in silence and contemplation, completely away from the public. In this heavenly place surrounded by forests and creeks, he shares his message with pilgrims, sincere seekers, and inquisitive souls who travel from around the world to associate personally with the hermit writer. When his health allows, he agrees to meet visitors.
Despite being retired, Prabhuji continues to operate various humanitarian projects, due to his conviction that “to serve the part is to serve the Whole.”
Prabhuji’s vast literary contributions include books in Hebrew, Spanish, and English such as Yoga… Experience your Presence, Classic Hatha Yoga, commentaries on The Yoga Sūtras of Patañjali, Yoga—Union with Reality, Tantra as it is, Kundalini Yoga, What is as it is, Bhakti Yoga—The Path of Love, and Spiritual Stories, in addition to commentaries on sacred scriptures such as the Nārada Bhakti Sūtra, Īśāvāsya Upaniṣad, Bhagavad Gītā, Bhāgavata Purāṇa, and others.
In January 2012, Prabhuji’s health forced him to officially renounce public life and the management of the mission. Prabhuji Ashram offers the opportunity to reside for limited time; however, the mission no longer accepts monastic residents.

I am currently working on a book on Vedic astrology. The manuscript is complete on second draft and should be published by year end. The intended audience is the average seeker who asks the basic questions: Who am I? What am I doing here? What is the purpose of my life? but has no previous knowledge of astrology and the book has nothing to do with psychic practices. On my worldly career I am a software architect and it is this systematic focus which I try to apply to my book. I have been practicing Vedic Astrology and Systems architecture for over 30 years worldwide. I have written a fiction book about women education and spiritual development in ancient times.
